In 1994 I was the Lead Animator at Mondo Media on the game The Daedalus Encounter, basically an interactive movie. I did 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, and animation; creating sprites, game environments, and cutscenes.
Using 3D Studio Release 4 (DOS) and Photoshop, I designed and created this solar system for the climax sequence in the game, where you must save your ship from burning up in the sun's heat. The surface of the sun, and the flames emanating from it, were done entirely with carefully-tuned & animated procedural textures.
An alien breaks through a membrane wall, surprising a live-action actor who was shot against a bluescreen. I created the membrane-piercing effect and animated the alien's fall through it.
In this scene Zack and Ari, played by Christian Bocher and Tia Carrere, pass through a forcefield on their way up an alien elevator. I created the field and elevator effects by compositing together a series of animated procedural textures.
