In 1998 I directed a team of fifteen artists at Mondo Media in creating assets for the Hasbro Interactive game Mechwarrior 3.

We created the three-minute opening cinematic, plus a thirty-second TV commercial, print advertising, images for game handbooks, point-of-purchase displays, game box covers, and a bus wrap for E3 1999.

I worked with Hasbro Interactive and their advertising agency Griffin BaCal to develop ads for magazines like PC Gamer and Next Generation. I took their rough initial sketches and developed them into fully-realized 3D images. I re-lit models from the game cinematic, created new models, and added a good dose of hand-painted detail.

I directed an outside contractor in creating war-damaged graphics for a series of buses at the E3 1999 convention in Los Angeles. We created front, back, left and right images, which were then shrink-wrapped onto the buses. The artist used Softimage and Photoshop to create the damage, along with stock photos of fire and sparks.

The images were the largest resolution either of us had ever worked with. For the left and right sides of the bus, the images were printed at 625 dots per inch, 12748 x 3320 pixels in size, each a whopping 200 MB EPS file. The layered PSDs were many times that size, and in fact each side was two separate PSDs to ease the strain on RAM and scratch disks.
